Application modernisation services

Application Modernisation

A great many organisations depend on applications that work, that nobody wants to touch, and that are becoming harder to staff and to extend. Modernisation is the process of changing that position without interrupting the business the system supports.

This is the area where Ydel's history is most directly useful. We have spent years supporting enterprise applications, Oracle Fusion Middleware, ERP implementations and long-lived custom systems. Knowing how those systems behave in production is what makes it possible to change them safely.

What we cover

  • Assessment of existing applications, dependencies and technical debt
  • Re-platforming and re-hosting of legacy workloads
  • Incremental decomposition of monolithic systems into services
  • Database migration and modernisation
  • User interface renewal on current web frameworks
  • Interim support and knowledge transfer during transition

Incremental rather than wholesale

Full rewrites are the most commonly attempted and most commonly abandoned approach to legacy systems. We favour incremental modernisation: identify the parts that carry the most risk or the most future change, move those first, and keep the system running throughout. Each step should deliver value on its own so that the programme survives a change of priorities.
